Where to begin in a project for the science fair to find the effect of pH on plants grown hydroponically?

for the fair science that I will grow plants hydroponically in water of different pH. first off do not really understand the hydroponic culture medium .. I just put the plants in the water with the proper nutrients? and what kind of plants should I use? Please Help:)

Well, I think it's best to start at the library and read about hydroponics.
