used, would 1 plant consume the nutrients faster per week (decreasing the initial amount of ppm) or would 50 plants consume the nutrients faster per week (also decreasing the initial amount of ppm)? In other words does the amount of plants affect the rate at which the ppm of nutrient solution decreases through uptake by the plants?

The number of plants definitely makes an impact. The plants draw their nutrients from the water. If you plan on crowding, be sure to take daily readings with a good meter.
