By definition, hydroponics means water labor from the Greek words for water (hydraulic) and labor (ponos). In practice this means that the hydroponic cultivation of plants in a nutrient enriched water through therefore, eliminating the need to find areas of land or land to grow pot plants.

And speaking of nutrients, this is probably the most important reason for the success of hydroponics. After all, you can determine most accurate measures of the quality and quantity of nutrients that plants need to thrive, with almost no other factors affect your tickets ahead of these nutrients. Now contrast with gardening soil where factors such as drainage and soil runoff affects absorption of nutrients.

Hydroponics nutrients dissolve in water, circulated to the plants and monitoring the pH levels. Please note that maintaining the correct levels of pH is essential in hydroponics, it determines that although plants absorb nutrients in the water. Of course, each type of plant requires a different set of optimal pH level.

Nutrients generally used in hydroponics are ionic and organic forms. Thus, see the cations of calcium, magnesium and potassium, and anions like nitrate, sulfate and monosodium phosphate as the main ingredients in hydroponic nutrients. Of course, these ingredients can be mixed and matched to arrive at different solutions. Furthermore, variations in a particular mix of cams also made as the plant reaches the different stages of life, therefore, optimize their nutrition and values aesthetic.

Another important point is to use hydroponic nutrients that can be changed as soon as it comes in contact with plants. This is because plants themselves certain substances can significantly deplete faster than others or that plants alter the pH levels of the water itself due to its acidic or alkaline. Therefore, it is always important to monitor and measure nutrient levels on a regular salt concentrations not to be too high, the plants become too malnourished and pH levels far from the mark.

There are two basic ways to measure nutrient levels:

• TDS Meters - First, a total dissolved solids (TDS) meter will provide a measurement expressed in parts per million (ppm), therefore, 1 ppm means one part the weight of the ore to a million parts of the nutrient solution. Today is the standard measurement between the U.S. producers.
• The second is the electrical conductivity (EC) meters, which provides a reading Millisiemens per centimeter. Basically, the general rule is that the higher the conductivity, the greater the food available to plants. However, be careful not to have a very high conductivity, which can lead to a burn-kill way to die for your plants.

Both meters to provide instant readings should therefore be easy to control nutrient levels as needed. Or better yet, you can also install the drivers nutrient that automatically measure, monitor and adjust the pH and nutrient levels in the water. Of course, these devices are expensive, but worth the investment, especially if you are planning to participate in hydroponics for a long time in commercial practice capacity. With the right solutions of nutrients, hydroponics offers many opportunities to grow numerous plants ranging from tomatoes to herbs with flowering plants!
