Hawaii is famous for the beautiful flowers and exotic, most of all orchids. Orchids are used to dress up a drink, the decoration of a tropical-themed room, or even make a lei. Orchid designs are often found in Hawaiian shirts and other souvenirs from Hawaii. In the native culture of Hawaii, Orchids are a symbol of love, joy and friendship.

Orchids are grown in Hawaii to be shipped worldwide. They grow wild in the islands Hawaii, due to year round tropical climate and warm temperatures all year round. Some botanists speculate that is now extinct on Oahu, where rare flowers have not been seen in over sixty years. The orchid Plantanthera Holochila thrives in moist conditions, like those found in swamps, and grows to about 20 inches tall. It typically grows on the ground in the shade. Its flowers form in dense clusters of up to 60 yellow flowers with green buds on the spike-like stalks. Unfortunately, it is expected that Holochila Plantanthera soon be extinct, as only a handful still survive.

The most common species of orchids in Hawaii, Anoectochilus sandvicensis can be found in all the main islands of Hawaii, and is known as the "jewel orchid" for its beautiful foliage. found high in tropical forests, this species of orchid can grow to 20 inches high. Although sometimes blooms throughout the year, most flowers are between August and December. The flowers are yellow, and grow on thick stems.

Although these are the only three native species of orchids, many others can be found in public gardens in Hawaii.
