Cal washing for greenhouses?

I've been trying to set up hydroponics in the green house in my high school. The problem is that most water evaporates so quickly that it is difficult to keep plants from drying out. the thermometer read 112 degrees today. When I asked my dad if he had any suggestions on what was wrong, said he used to have to put some material in lime green houses that used to work at during the summer to divert some heat outputs. I live in California, comes to about 106 degrees in the summer and probably not until the autumn rains. What exactly is this thing of lime, and where I can get some. A recipe would be nice.

Get some water cheap white latex paint based on thin down with a huge amount of water. Start with a small amount of paint into a cup to prove it.
